The Tour of Antalya is canceled due to the earthquake in Turkey – International Cycling

by time news

Although not surprising, it is still news: the Tour of Antalya has been canceled after the shocking 7.8 Richter earthquake that shook Turkey a few hours ago. It left thousands of victims and the rescue efforts are just beginning.

“The Antalya Tour, planned between February 9 and 12, has been cancelled,” the organizers said on social networks. It is not for less, considering that the current government has classified the catastrophe as the worst since the 1939 earthquake, when 32,000 people died.

A category 2.1 event, the Tour of Antalya joined the UCI calendar in 2018 and represented good pre-season competition for much of the peloton. In fact, there were several World Tour teams registered.

Unfortunately, nature had other plans and all efforts will now be devoted to searching for survivors among the ruins. It is worth mentioning that the tourist paradise that hosts the race was not affected by the earthquake.
