Legendary Entertainment is resurrecting the cult classic film, “The Toxic Avenger,” with a brand new remake. Directed by Macon Blair, known for his work in “I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore” and “Green Room,” the remake features a surprising cast that includes “Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage.
The film, described as a “brand new reimagining” of Lloyd Kaufman’s original, centers around the character Winston Gooze, portrayed by Peter Dinklage. Joining Dinklage are Elijah Wood, Julia Davis, Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, and Jacob Tremblay, each playing unique characters that can be seen in the first-look images provided by Entertainment Weekly.
Elijah Wood takes on the role of a villain named Fritz Garbinger, whose over-the-top appearance draws inspiration from Danny DeVito’s iconic portrayal of Penguin in “Batman Returns.” Macon Blair describes Garbinger as a blend of Riff Raff from “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and the Danny DeVito Penguin.
The contemporary take on “The Toxic Avenger” follows the story of Winston Gooze, a downtrodden janitor who transforms into the eponymous hero after an accident involving toxic waste. The film explores environmental themes as Gooze battles against the forces of greed and corruption to protect his loved ones and his community.
Troma, the production company behind the original film, assures fans that the remake maintains the spirit of the original while offering a fresh take. The new film has been rated “R” for its violence and gore, staying true to Troma tradition.
