The traffic police proposed to increase the speed limit on the roads to 150 km/h

The head of the traffic police, Mikhail Chernikov, said that the speed limit on Russian roads could be increased to 150 km/h on some road sections.

“Of course, we need to speed up the roads, speed up. It’s safe to speed up. Our roads have become in many ways even better than any European ones. We now see from the quality and arrangement of the elements of the road network that it is possible to increase individual sections up to 150 km / h, ”Chernikov said at a press conference (quoted by Interfax).

He recalled that earlier the Ministry of Internal Affairs proposed to increase the maximum speed on motorways from 110 to 130 km/h, which did not lead to an increase in accidents. “No, it hasn’t grown. I can say, moreover, that the throughput has increased and the aggression of drivers is disappearing,” Chernikov added. In his opinion, “it’s better to immediately agree with the driver that you can go here.”

Yevgeny Dietrich, who previously held the post of Minister of Transport, announced a possible increase in the speed limit on the Central Ring Road to 150 km / h. Also, this idea was expressed by the head of Avtodor, Vyacheslav Petushenko, but in the end the decision was not made.
