RTÉ has confirmed that The Traitors Ireland will return for its second season on Sunday, August 30, bringing host Siobhán McSweeney and after-show host Kevin McGahern back to Slane Castle for another round of high-stakes deception, strategy, and a maximum prize fund of up to €50,000.
Following a first installment that delivered strong viewership for the broadcaster, the psychological reality format is set to resume its slot in autumn evening routines. The core mechanics of the game remain unchanged, drawing inspiration from the Dutch format De Verraders
and functioning much like social deduction games such as Mafia or Werewolf. Contestants arrive at the historic Slane Castle to participate in a structured environment where trust and betrayal dictate survival.
How The Game Works at Slane Castle
Inside the castle walls, the contestants are divided into two distinct groups. A select few are secretly designated as traitors, tasked with working together to eliminate the remaining majority—known as the faithful—without being unmasked. Every single night, the traitors convene in secret to decide on one faithful contestant to murder and remove from the competition.
When morning arrives, the survivors discover who was cut during breakfast. Later that same evening, the group gathers for a tense roundtable discussion to vote out an individual they suspect of operating as a traitor. The faithful win the game and claim the prize fund only if they successfully banish all traitors before the final showdown.
