In the joint document “CEF III – a targeted approach to EU rapprochement”, the Minister of Transport of Latvia Kaspars Briškens (P), the Minister of Transport of Lithuania Marjus Skuodis and the Minister of Infrastructure of Estonia Vladimirs Svets emphasize that in the next EU multi-year financial scheme, the Connecting Europe Facility CEF) should remain one of the main EU budget instruments with adequate funding to meet the growing needs of the EU and its Member States in the transport, energy and electronic communications sectors.

According to the ministers, in connection with the new multi-year financial scheme, which will start in 2028, more EU funding will be very important in order to continue developing the missing cross-border transport connections, speed up the “Rail Baltica” project and integrate the Baltic states into the European transport system. They also point to the need for more funding for military mobility.

The need to strengthen the instrument for connecting European infrastructure, as well as to allocate more funds for military mobility at the EU level, was also emphasized in the declaration of the transport ministers of the Central European and Baltic countries, which was signed this year in the Czech Republic.
