Therefore, further investigation in a larger patient cohort is needed to establish the overall efficacy of dostarlimab against colon cancer.
In an editorial accompanying the article, Hanna K. Sanoff, of the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of North Carolina, calls the study “small but compelling.” However, she added that it is not yet known if the patients are cured.
“Very little is known about the length of time needed to find out if a complete clinical response to dostarlimab equates to a cure,” Sanoff writes in the editorial.
If dostarlimab demonstrates the same efficacy in a much larger group, it could transform cancer care for thousands of patients around the world.
