For May 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., the trial of the highly acclaimed espionage case against Greece, with a 36-year-old secretary of the Turkish consulate and a 53-year-old former cook of the ship “E/G – Mr. Stavros”.

One of the jurors felt unwell and the court decided to stop the trial.

As “demokratiki” wrote, the two defendants have been found guilty at first instance of espionage jointly and consecutively, with a common single purpose of use to transmit state secrets to another with the purpose of causing danger to the interests of the state.
The trial court found them not guilty of the offenses of supporting the enemy’s military force jointly and severally and of violating State secrets jointly and severally.
The court of first instance recognized the mitigating factor of prior common law life for both defendants and imposed a 5-year prison sentence on the 36-year-old and a 4-year prison sentence on the 53-year-old.
The sentence of the former was not initially suspended, while along the way, by a decision of the Mixed Court of Appeal of the Dodecanese, the relevant request he submitted was accepted and he was released with the restrictive conditions of the payment of a monetary guarantee of 10,000 euros, the ban on leaving the country and his appearance on 1st and 15th day of every month at the police station of his place of residence.
The 36-year-old’s defense attorneys are Mr. Ilias Anagnostopoulos, Alexandros Tsagkalidis and Tina Hatzikostaninou and the 53-year-old Mr. Stelios Alexandris.
