On May 4, the trial of imprisoned blogger Rashad Ramazanov was held at the Baku Serious Crimes Court. At the meeting, the petition raised by lawyer Elchn Sadigov about the fact that Rashad Ramazanov was subjected to physical torture during his arrest was granted by the court. The lawyer himself informed about this. According to him, experts confirmed that Ramazanov was tortured. Ramazanov said that he did not have drugs on him when he was arrested. The police beat him and then brought the package of drugs from another room. Not wanting to listen to Hakim Ramazanov, he said, “bring what he said to the next meeting.” Ramazanov replied, “I’m here because I wrote that.” The next trial is scheduled for May 25. Rashad Ramazanov was detained on May 20, 2022, and the next day he was charged with Article 234.4.3 of the Criminal Code ( with the illegal circulation of a large amount of narcotics) was chosen as preventive measure for a period of 4 months. With this article, he can be imprisoned from 5 to 12 years. Rashad Ramazanov was also arrested in May 2013 and sentenced to 9 years in prison on the charge of illegal trafficking of a large amount of drugs. Local human rights organizations recognized Ramazanov as a political prisoner, stating that the real reason for his arrest was his criticism of the authorities on social networks. In March 2019, Ramazanov was released on amnesty.
