Giridih: Consignments of liquor are being smuggled from Jharkhand to Bihar. This time the smugglers filled the sacks with paddy husk all around the truck and were taking 619 boxes of liquor to Bihar. But Giridih Police and Excise Police seized the truck carrying liquor near Papparwatand Toll Plaza.

The driver tried to run away after seeing the police

On seeing the police, the truck driver and the helper tried to run away. But the jawans deployed there chased and caught them. The cost of the recovered liquor is Rs 60 lakh. The seized liquor has been kept in the Excise Department’s depot in Barmasiya. The liquor bottles have Chandigarh wrappers.

Police is searching for the main leader of the liquor smuggling gang

The police sent the arrested truck driver and helper to jail. One of them is from Patan in Palamu district and the other is from Patna district in Bihar. The police has received information that this consignment of liquor was being planned to be taken to Bhagalpur in Bihar. The police is preparing to reach the main kingpin of the liquor smuggling gang.

Preparations were being made to transport the consignment of liquor to Bhagalpur via Dumka

The arrested accused told the police that the liquor consignments were loaded in Garhwa and they were asked to be delivered to Dumka. They were not informed where to deliver them in Dumka. After reaching Bhagalpur from there, a person would reach there himself and then the consignment was to be unloaded accordingly. Excise Superintendent Mahendra Dev said that liquor is being supplied illegally to Bihar on a large scale from Garhwa district.
