The Turkish authorities have neutralized four people who were preparing a terrorist act with motorized paragliders, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced last night.

According to information from the news agency Ihlyas Haber Agency, the four are members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), declared a terrorist group. They were detected by the unmanned aircraft Akandzh Tiha that they crossed illegally from Iraq to Turkish territory near Sirnak, writes BTA.

The PKK has been waging an armed struggle against the Turkish state since 1984 and is considered a terrorist organization by Ankara, the EU and the US. PKK fighters have bases in northern Iraq.

An attack was launched against the group with ATAK helicopters and gendarmerie commandos, as well as mine disposal and explosive detection teams. All four terrorists were killed in the attack. A large amount of sniper weapons, pistols, laser binoculars and mobile phones were found in their luggage.

Two motorized paragliders were also found among the belongings. With them, the terrorists planned to commit a terrorist act in Turkey, the interior minister pointed out.
