Minister of Water Resources Aoun Diab announced today, Wednesday, that a request had been submitted to the Turkish side to increase water releases to enhance the storage of the Haditha Dam, indicating that this came after Turkey was informed of the size of the storage in the dam.

Dhiab told the (INA): “The director of the National Center submitted a report to the Turkish side in which he explained the quantities of storage available or available in Turkish dams and the storage available in Haditha Dam, where we indicated that the current storage is very small, and we requested an increase in this aspect during the three months (July, August and September).”

Dhiab added, “We will follow up on this matter, as the committee will be a joint, permanent, and ongoing committee, from which subcommittees will emerge,” stressing “working seriously with the aim of taking practical steps in this regard.”

During the second meeting of the joint committee between Iraq and Turkey on water, Minister of Water Resources Aoun Diab stressed that “the situation in the Tigris River is good, especially since this year was abundant in rainfall, but the situation is different in the Euphrates River, especially the Haditha Dam,” expressing his “hope that there will be assistance from the Turkish side in this regard.”
