Time.news – The state of New York, together with those of New Jersey and Connecticut, will ease the anti-Covid 19 restrictions starting from May 19.

Restaurants, offices, shops, cinemas, theaters, museums, barbers, amusement parks, gyms can resume operating at full speed. Businesses will be allowed to welcome as many people as they want, provided that the social distancing, as recommended by the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Big Apple, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced, “will be completely open”. The spacing rule also, will not apply who provides proof of the vaccine done or a negative test. “All the indicators are pointing in the right direction,” added Cuomo, pointing to the decline in Covid-19 positivity rates and hospitalizations, which are at their lowest since November, and vaccination levels on the rise.

As Cuomo announced, the metro will reopen 24 hours a day starting May 17. However, the train reception capacity will continue to be limited by the space available, as the federal directive of the social distance of six feet (about 2 meters) between customers will continue to apply.

Outdoor meetings will now be able to hold up to 500 people, up from 200 previously allowed, and up to 250 people at indoor meetings versus 100 previously allowed. Sports stadiums will still be limited to 33% capacity, except for spectators who can present a vaccination certificate or recent negative swab. In early May 2020, when New York was at the epicenter of the pandemic, it was forced, for the first time since 1904, to set a stop – first from 01H00 to 05H00 in the morning and then from 02H00 to 04H00 – to allow disinfection of the cars.

“The economic revitalization of the city depends on robust public transportation, and its 24-hour operation is an essential part,” said Patrick Foye, president of the New York transit authority, MTA, stressing that the use of the mask and rigorous disinfection of the media will continue to remain effective.
