Alicante, Nov 29 (EFE).- Starting in 2024, the University of Alicante Library will launch the new service called ‘Usoteca’ in which temporary loans of everyday objects with very diverse uses can be requested.

In this way, instead of buying objects to use them sporadically or occasionally, they are shared in the university community and, with this, their use is expanded and they become accessible to a greater number of people, as reported this Wednesday by the academic institution.

These types of projects seek to reduce the environmental impact caused by the purchase of rarely used instruments by individuals, as well as the reuse of objects, to promote the circular economy.

The ‘Usoteca’ service will be carried out, mainly, from the Media Library, but some materials will be provided in the rest of the university libraries.

The aim of this initiative is to increase the type of objects that are already lent in libraries, such as laptops, e-book readers or music stands, among others.

Initially, we will start with the loan of learning support materials and, subsequently, we want to expand the range of objects to sports tools and supplies, musical instruments or any object that responds to the described characteristics.

For this reason, the UA Library invites the university community to participate in the initiative by donating objects they have at home, that are in good condition and whose use is infrequent.

The ‘Usoteca’ service, created under an agreement between the UA and the Generalitat, has the support of Commonomía and Territorio Empresa. EFE
