Herzog: “The whole world around us is anxious”

The reference to the Temple Mount follows what President Herzog said yesterday to the Shas Knesset members who came to him as part of the round of consultations. When Herzog thought the microphone was closed, he was heard telling the Shas members one issue that I did not say – you will have a problem with the Temple Mount. This is an issue Critical. I know, but you have a partner that the whole world around us is anxious about. I also told him that between us it’s really not for publication. I don’t want to cause trouble. It’s really not for publication.” Then the recording stopped.

Following these remarks, Ben Gvir announced that he would personally come to the president’s house together with party advisors, to discuss the issue with him. “President Yitzhak Herzog and I have been having many fruitful conversations in recent weeks. More than once he has pointed out to the president that the close familiarity with my views and plans has managed to sway hundreds of thousands in Israel and that he is confident that if I speak to the world they will understand and recognize that I am not generalizing all Arabs.

By the way, following the talks with the president, I started meeting with diplomats and will work to explain Otzma Yehudit’s positions in the entire world.”

Following the remarks, the President’s House clarified: “The President presented to the representatives of the Shas faction requests he received, in which he was concerned about MK Itamar Ben Gabir’s positions on certain issues. In the conversation, the President emphasized the responsibility placed on all elected officials.”

“As part of his talks with all the leaders of the factions last Thursday, the president also called MK Ben Gabir, and in an open and honest conversation, raised the issue with him as well.”
