UN Women has criticized the “totally unacceptable offensive comments and behavior” of the President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, about the kiss to the player Jenni Hermoso at the World Cup celebration, and has defended “tolerance zero” against “any form of abuse or harassment” in women’s sport.

Likewise, UN Women has welcomed “with satisfaction” FIFA’s initiative to initiate disciplinary proceedings after “a clearly inappropriate act towards a sportswoman” in the final of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

FIFA suspends Rubiales “from all activity”
The International Football Federation (FIFA), through its Disciplinary Commission, has suspended this Saturday “provisionally” the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, “from all activities related to football national and international level”.
The president of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, Jorge Ivan Palacio (Colombia), using the powers granted by article 51 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (CDF), has agreed today to provisionally suspend Mr. Luis Rubiales of all activities related to football at a national and international level”, the highest football organization in the world indicated in a press release.
