The United Nations Organization (HIM) is worried about the reform of the judiciary and sent an alarming message.

This reform proposes to modify article 95 of the Constitution, so that judges, magistrates and ministers be elected by popular vote.
However, the reform promoted by President AMLO It has been controversial and rejected not only by workers of the Judiciary who are on an indefinite work stoppage, but also by foreign governments and international organizations such as the HIM.
What did the UN say about the reform of the judiciary?
Margaret Satterthwaite, Special Rapporteur of the HIMspoke about the reform of the judiciary within the framework of the discussion of the opinion in the committees of the Chamber of Deputies.
The special rapporteur of the HIM expressed the concerns of the organization due to possible implications that the reform would have on judicial independence in Mexico.
Therefore, asked Mexico to reconsider the proposal prioritizing the guarantee of human rights and judicial independence.

Also, in an interview for Reforma, the special rapporteur of the HIM agreed with the opinion of Ken Salazar, US ambassador to Mexico: that the reform of the judiciary will increase the risk of corruption in the judicial system.
“President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s initiative, far from avoiding the risks of corruption in the judicial system, amplifies them. (…) The more political the process becomes, the greater the risk of corruption because they also try to find power at any cost.”

AMLO assures that he will not accept interference in the reform of the Judicial Branch
The various foreign opinions on the reform of the judiciary caused the president AMLO exploded on August 23.
