The mission reported in a statement this evening that, in a session held today, September 30, in the presence of 108 members, the House of Representatives unanimously approved the candidates, while the Supreme Council of State completed their official approval on September 29, with the signature of a majority of 112 of its members.

The United Nations Mission called on all parties concerned to ensure a smooth handover and transfer process to the new leadership of the Central Bank of Libya, in line with the laws and procedures in force in Libya.

The mission urged to move forward with appointing a credible and professional board of directors, in accordance with the provisions of the September 25 agreement.

The UN mission said that the presence of competent and accountable leadership of the Central Bank of Libya, including a board of directors, is necessary to restore confidence to the Libyan people and enhance the bank’s credibility within the global financial system. It also raises hope for governance based on transparency and accountability in managing the resources of the Libyan people.

The United Nations Mission also called on all relevant institutions to withdraw all unilateral decisions issued in the context of the Central Bank of Libya crisis, and stressed the urgent need to end the closure of oil fields and stop disrupting its production and export, and called for revenues from this vital resource, through the appropriate institutional framework, to be directed to… Central Bank.

The mission added that the progress achieved in resolving the Central Bank of Libya crisis, including constructive participation by the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State, revives hope for future progress on a comprehensive political process, under the auspices of the United Nations, that will lead the country to general elections.

The United Nations Support Mission concluded its statement by affirming its commitment to supporting Libya’s march towards sustainable peace, stability and economic recovery.
