Mother’s Day is one of the most emotional days of the year, in a positive sense in many cases and negative in others. In the first group are all those who are lucky enough to still have their mother by their side; in the second, those who have suffered the pain of losing it.
These were precisely the ones who found the Wallapop marketing campaign the most tasteless for such an important day.
The well-known app for buying and selling second-hand items decided to use Mother’s Day to boost its records and operations, but the chosen way was certainly unlucky according to testimonials from multiple users.
The campaign in question consisted of simulating in a notification a missed call from ‘mom’, who was supposedly calling for you to “sell your surplus things”.
An action that caused more than a sensation of shock in all those who received it and who lost their mother. The moment of seeing a “missed call from mom” was not pleasant at all, as they stated in networks.
«My mother died 5 years ago. Today my heart almost came out when I get a notification that says ‘Mom. Missed call’”, commented a user.
Oye @wallapop

«Surely you thought it was a good idea to do it today. But it is not, “added another. «Leaving the cemetery after taking some flowers to my mother for the anniversary of her death, this comes to me. My heart shrinks. Broken. Your marketing strategy that does not take orphans into account has ruined my day. More, if possible”, wrote a third, in one of the most viral tweets on the matter, with thousands of interactions.
