The trade union movement in Guinea plans to go on a general and indefinite strike starting Monday, February 26, 2024, across the entire national territory. According to their strike notice, the unionists are demanding, among other things: the release of their comrade Sékou Jamal PENDESSA, sentenced Friday to 6 months in prison, three of which are suspended, the application of tripartite and sectoral agreements, the reduction of prices of foodstuffs.
In Labé, a meeting was held on Friday between the different union structures. Asked about this meeting, the regional secretary of the USTG told us this:
“We met yesterday to share the content of the strike notice filed by the union movement. Labé, will not remain on the sidelines of this strike, it will be observed as in other cities in the country. In Labé, we are observing respect for the situation in other cities in the country, we will be in the movement at the same level as them. The strike will begin on Monday February 26, you are aware that the last weapon of the union is the strike, that is why the notice. We all know the situation prevailing in the country, we didn’t want to get to this point, but we can’t do anything. What we are demanding is the right of the people of Guinea; it is the improvement of the living conditions of Guineans. Everyone is suffering in this country. I ask all workers to support this strike,” asks Mamadou Niama Baldé.
