May 1st, the usual day of mobilization of workers, should be marked this year by strikes and massive demonstrations. In a context of strong protest against the government and the pension reform it is carrying, the unions are hoping to make a difference.
On the morning of Thursday April 27, a hundred demonstrators took over a terminal at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport (Val-d’Oise). “The airport is a sector of the world of work that brings together different professional bodies. Well we said to ourselves: it’s a nice place to be able to demonstrate“, explains one of them. Four days before May 1, these activists are already determined and intend to keep the pressure on the government.
SNCF also concerned
“May 1st is symbolic. There was a call from the inter-union to mobilize. We’re going to make sure it’s a beautiful May 1st“, confirms Nicolas Pereira, secretary general of Union CGT Roissy CDG. The unions are hoping for a historic mobilization, which should greatly affect air traffic. 33% of flights should be canceled at Orly on Monday, and 25% at Roissy. Others French airports will also be affected.The SNCF, it will give its forecasts only in the weekend, but many trains should be canceled, according to the unions.
