The opening ceremony of the Narva Gymnasium will take place on September 1 at 10.00. Since from that date the gymnasium section was closed in municipal schools, in addition to the Language Lyceum, high school students chose where to go – to the municipal Language Lyceum or to one of the two new state gymnasiums: the Narva Estonian Gymnasium on ul. Kraavi or to the Narva gymnasium on the street. Pushkin.
Opening program:
At 10:00 Grand opening of the first academic year and the opening of the school building.
At 11:00 Piano concert performed by students, presentation of the school building.
At 11.30 the first meeting of mentor groups.
Those entering the Narva State Gymnasium enter the atrium, which is used as an assembly hall, foyer and dining room. And three mirror cubes of classrooms hang over the atrium – this is the first school building in Estonia where the architects were able to realize such a bold idea.
The building of the Narva Gymnasium is strikingly different from the old school buildings – not only in architecture, but also in the atmosphere that such architecture creates.
The premises are grouped around the atrium, which is both a dining room and an assembly hall. Kitchen equipment is located in the corner of the room. Therefore, the tables at which the students will have lunch can be moved to the side in order to use the atrium as an assembly hall, said Teivy Gabriel. At the same time, sound equipment is pre-built into the walls.
State gymnasiums are being built all over Estonia. They do not provide sports halls, but they made an exception for the Narva Gymnasium. There is a gym for basketball, volleyball and other ball games here, it is designed for both state gymnasiums, and for students of the Narva Estonian gymnasium, which is being built on a neighboring street, there is a separate entrance.
