The United Kingdom has announced 450,000 Euros (Tk 7 ​​crore) in aid to those affected by the floods. On Thursday (August 29), the UK High Commission announced this information in a circular.

The announcement mentions that the United Kingdom is providing essential humanitarian aid worth 450,000 euros (Tk 7 ​​crore) to help more than 36,000 people affected by the floods. More than 5 million people were affected by the floods. The aid will help the people of the seven most affected districts.

The districts are – Feni, Comilla, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Moulvibazar, Khagrachari and Chittagong. Some areas are experiencing worst floods in 40 years.

The UK’s new support will be implemented by a start-up fund Bangladesh and run by NGOs. It will assist more than 36,000 people with food, cash assistance, clean water, sanitation and hygiene supplies.

Sarah Cook, the British High Commissioner assigned to Bangladesh, said that the UK government stands by all those affected by the current floods in the eastern part of Bangladesh. I am pleased to announce that the UK Government is providing humanitarian assistance to those affected. This assistance complements the active and ongoing response of the interim government of Bangladesh, civil society, and local communities.
