In detail, forest fires in the US state of Los Angeles raged out of control, threatening thousands of homes and buildings.
According to American media, the fires spread to the foothills of a national forest east of Los Angeles, amid a heat wave that lasted for days and elevated temperatures across the region.
The state’s civil defense said 3 firefighters were injured and more than 35,000 buildings, including single and multi-family homes and commercial buildings, were threatened.
In the meantime, the authorities issued evacuation orders for different areas, due to thunderstorms expected later in the day to make conditions more difficult.
Local authorities said the San Bernardino County fire, known as the “Line Fire,” started Thursday in the town of Highland, east of Los Angeles, and spread along the edge of the San Bernardino National Forest, about 65 miles (105 miles) away. km) east of the state.
By Sunday morning, the fire had destroyed about 27 square miles (70 square kilometers) of grass and trees, leaving a thick cloud of dark smoke covering the area.
State officials said vegetation in the area was extremely dry and temperatures reached more than 100 degrees (39 degrees Celsius) with low relative humidity to provide ideal conditions for the fire to spread.
