The Mexican government’s demand against a group of 6 arms manufacturers was dismissed by US judicial authorities. The Mexican Foreign Ministry has already responded to the ruling.
On Wednesday, August 7, a federal judge in Massachusetts resolved to dismiss the claim filed by the Mexican government against 6 companies involved in firearm manufacturing.
The judge determined that the court in Massachusetts lacked the appropriate jurisdiction to assess corporate responsibility in the case.
In response to the dismissal, the Mexican Foreign Ministry stated that it has taken note of the resolution and will analyze potential next steps.
The ministry emphasized that the resolution does not absolve the companies of any potential responsibility for the illegal trafficking of firearms in Mexico.
The lawsuit was filed by the Mexican government alleging that the companies knew their products were being sold to organized crime groups.
The Mexican authorities accused the companies of exploiting the illegal arms market and requested compensation of $10 billion.
