At the end of 2023, the United States purchased uranium from Russia for a record amount of $1.2 billion. This follows from an analysis of data from the American statistical service, Day.Az reports with reference to ura.news.

“The cost of deliveries for the year increased by 43% – to a new record of $1.2 billion,” says RIA Novosti’s analysis of statistics. It is noted that Russia was able to maintain first place in terms of the cost of uranium supplies to the United States, and also increase its share in imports to 27% from 26% a year earlier.

Last December, the US House of Representatives approved legislation banning the import of low-enriched uranium from Russia. It was noted that the US Secretary of Energy, in agreement with the Secretary of State, retains the right to lift the import ban if other sources of uranium supplies become unavailable or the supply of Russian fuel meets the national interests of the country. The restrictions will remain in effect until 2040.

At the same time, in November 2023, Russia became the main exporter of uranium to the United States. Thus, compared to October, the cost of supplies of Russian nuclear fuel increased by almost half.
