In videos published by different users, it was possible to see how the flares remained lit for several minutes, while those present recorded and sang. The intervention of a worker was necessary to put out the fire. Subsequently, the staff proceeded to activate the alarms and the broadcast of the audiovisual material was stopped.

The flare lit by Universitario fans at Cineplanet put the lives of those in attendance at risk (Twitter).

Faced with these events, Cineplanet decided to withdraw the ‘Iluminados’ documentary from theaters, despite the fact that it had not exceeded the fourth day of screening since its premiere and still had a week left in broadcasting, as announced. In fact, due to its success at the box office, it was also planned to be screened in the provinces.

The decision was announced through a statement published by Universitario de Deportes, in which they condemned the conduct of said fans and urged their fans not to engage in acts that harm the club:

“We regret that an irresponsible act outside the club, which occurred during the screening of the documentary ‘Iluminados’, has endangered the integrity of the fans and workers who attended said function in San Juan de Miraflores. Due to what happened, we announce that the decision was made to cancel the screening of ‘Iluminados’ in Cineplanet theaters during its second week, as well as its premiere in the provinces. We want to emphasize that negligent behavior like this directly affects the club. We encourage our fans to adopt behaviors that do not harm the institution’s projects in a year as important as the Centennial,” they reported.

INDECI staff announced that a fine will be applied to Cineplanet for lack of prevention when organizing the show and announced that they requested the videos to find those responsible and report them:

“We carried out an inspection inside the movie theater. We have fined them for not having the precaution to carry out this type of shows. The fine amounts to 1UIT. In addition, we are asking the cinema to provide us with internal videos so we can identify these people, try to establish communication with the police, and if necessary, report them,” an official told Canal N.
