Knitting his eulogy Konstantinou Mitsotakis for his role in the formation of Greek-Albanian relations and passing, in an elegant way, the current clouds that shadow them due to the Beleri case, the Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama unveiled today in Dervicani, Argyrokastro, the bust of the former Prime Minister of Greece, which he was the first to visit the minority region after the fall of the Hoxha regime.

The bust was designed by the well-known artist Andri Dulet.

Edi Rama, an excellent communicator, did not skimp on good words for Konstantinos Mitsotakis, recounting his historical journey and highlighting his contribution to Greek-Albanian friendship, together with Andreas Papandreou. Referring to the current difficult relations between the two sides due to the prosecutions of the mayor of Heimarra, he spoke of “misunderstandings”, which he attributed, without naming Beleris, to pre-election expediencies.

The Greek Prime Minister was represented by the former Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos who described the placement of the statue of Konstantinos Mitsotakis in Dervitsani square as an honor for the Greeks. The event was attended by the ambassador of Greece in Tirana, Konstantina Kamitsi, the expatriate mayor of Dropoli Dimitris Tolis and minorities of the area. This was followed by a music and dance program with Greek and Albanian songs and dances.

Konstantinos Mitsotakis had visited Dervitsani on January 13, 1991 accompanied by the then Foreign Minister Antonis Samaras, Dora Bakoyannis and Mikis Theodorakis. In the square of the village that now bears his bust and name, he had met with a devout welcome from thousands of minorities.
