The US Embassy explained the message about threats of attacks in Russia with publications about “mining”

The US Embassy in Russia explained the warning published the day before about the threat of attacks in public places in the country with reports of “mining” that have been circulating recently. About this “RIA Novosti” said the press secretary of the American diplomatic mission Jason Rebholz.
“In recent days, a number of Russian media have reported a wave of “mining” of public buildings and places in Russia, including metro stations, in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities. <...> We have issued the alert for security reasons and as part of our commitment to provide US citizens with clear and timely information so they can make informed decisions,” Rebholz said.
The diplomat stressed that one of the main tasks of the State Department is to ensure the safety of American citizens abroad.
The diplomatic mission earlier appealed to Americans in Russia and urged them to monitor the situation in local and foreign media, avoid crowded places and consider evacuation options without the help of US authorities. Diplomats, citing media reports, did not rule out attacks on shopping centers and metro stations in major cities, including Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as near the Ukrainian border.
