The United States exported 367.7 billion cubic feet (about 10.4 billion cubic meters) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in May 2024, which is 0.3% higher than the same month in 2023, according to the monthly report of the US Department of Energy, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.
LNG exports in May 2024 were 21% higher than in April and 0.3% higher than in May 2023. A total of 122 LNG tankers were shipped.
The main supply destinations were India (45.3 billion cubic feet, or 1.28 billion cubic meters), Japan (41.2 billion cubic feet, or 1.17 billion cubic meters), the Netherlands (37.7 billion cubic feet, or 1.07 billion cubic meters), South Korea (28.4 billion cubic feet, or 0.8 billion cubic meters), and Germany (26.2 billion cubic feet, or 0.74 billion cubic meters). These countries accounted for 48.6% of all US supplies.
At the same time, the share of deliveries to Asia in the total volume of US LNG exports in May increased to 50.8% compared to 37.5% in April, according to the report. The share of shipments to Europe decreased – 38.3% in May. The remaining volumes were sent to Latin American countries.
In total, in January-May 2023, the United States exported about 1.796 trillion cubic feet of LNG (50.83 billion cubic meters), which is 1.4% higher than the same period last year. Since the beginning of the year, the United States has exported 29.3 billion cubic meters of LNG to Europe (57.7% of the total volume), and about 17.1 billion cubic meters (34% of the total volume) to Asia.
