Al-Marsad newspaper – Reuters: The US Food and Drug Administration warned, on Tuesday, of a common drug used by millions around the world to treat diabetes, noting the discovery that it was contaminated with a carcinogen.

And the US Food and Drug Administration stated that by examining samples of the sitagliptin compound found in the drug Januvia, a diabetes drug from Merck, it was found that it was contaminated with a possible carcinogen.

And the US Food and Drug Administration indicated that an impurity called nitrosamine was found in some samples of the drug, which bears the chemical name of sitagliptin. Januvia is Merck’s third best-selling drug, with sales of $3.3 billion last year, according to Bloomberg data.
