The United States has encountered problems in the production of a nuclear submarine fleet for Australia under the AUKUS military pact, lagging behind the planned deadlines. This was reported by the Bloomberg agency, Day.Az reports with reference to Lenta.ru.
“If you fast-forward 10 years, I’d be shocked if the Australians had a submarine. It seems optimistic to think that all this investment will pay off by then,” the publication quotes Todd Harrison, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, as saying.
As the authors of the article note, the authorities of the USA, Great Britain and Australia fear criticism of the pact due to the lack of visible results. The situation is complicated by the modernization of the American fleet, due to which the shipyards are unable to fulfill their current obligations to Canberra.
AUKUS is a trilateral partnership between the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom, established in 2021 to ensure security in the Indo-Pacific region, primarily the South China Sea. This military pact assumes the first component in the form of joint production of a nuclear submarine fleet by the three countries and the exchange of technologies on this issue.
