The US House of Representatives on Saturday approved new legislation that would ban the TikTok platform in the United States, if the platform owner does not sell its stake within one year.

According to Agence France-Presse, the US House of Representatives approved a text that includes a threat to ban the TikTok application in the United States if the platform does not sever its ties with the parent company, ByteDance, and subsequently with China.
American officials accuse the platform of allowing Beijing to spy on and manipulate 170 million users in the United States, and the legislative text still needs to be approved by the Senate.
A separate 6-month resolution passed the House of Representatives in March with a bipartisan majority while Democrats and Republicans share national security concerns about the Chinese company that owns TikTok.
The amended legislation will now go to the Senate after negotiations that resulted in a settlement.
