The Pentagon will announce a long-term arms package for Ukraine worth more than $2 billion. It will include missiles for air defense. It is reported by Bloomberg.
The US Department of Defense is expected to announce the package on Friday, administration officials said.
As noted, the upcoming announcement will be made as military analysts speak of the start of the expected counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
What will be included in the package
The funds allocated under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) will be used to purchase missile launchers and Hawk missiles, as well as two types of advanced Patriot air defense missiles.
According to the publication, one of them is the Patriot Advanced Capability Missile-3, or Pac-3, manufactured by Lockheed Martin Corp.
The other is the Guidance Enhanced Missile, or GEM-T, from Raytheon Technologies Corp. It provides an improved ability to hit ballistic missiles, cruise missiles or enemy aircraft in addition to the PAC-3 missile.

The USAI initiative aims to pay for contracts with delivery dates in months or even years to support Ukraine’s long-term security needs.
Recall that the United States announced in November 2022 its intention to supply Hawk systems from its own stocks, but they must be repaired at USAI funds.
Air defense Hawk
The anti-aircraft missile system is the predecessor of the Patriot missile defense system. Initially, the complex was developed to destroy aircraft, later it was modified to intercept missiles in flight. It was accepted into service in 1960.
The complex itself is estimated at $15 million, and the missiles for it – $250,000 per unit.
