Congress begins public sessions of its investigation into the assault on Capitol Hill with “disturbing” evidence linking Trump to the plot

More than a year after the assault on the Washington Capitol, the Congressional Commission that analyzes the plot behind the attack today begins its public hearings and the presentation of the first conclusions after ten months of exhaustive investigation. Its president, Republican Liz Cheney, has described the attack as “chilling, and extremely broad and well organized”, while linking it to the efforts of former President Donald Trump and his allies to annul the results of the elections of 2020.

Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, openly critical of Trump, are the only two Republicans who are part of a Commission that their party has tried to block and sabotage at all costs. Cheney added on Sunday that the huge investigation, recorded in more than 100,000 pages of documents, reveals “very worrying” conclusions due to the constant threat they represent to American democracy.

Over the course of six historic Watergate-style hearings, the disturbing details of the planning and execution of a far-reaching conspiracy, with actors inside and outside the federal government, that culminated in the violence of January 6, 2021, will be presented.

THE KEYS:

  • historical sessions.
Six hearings will reveal the details of a conspiracy in which the Government participated

  • Enemies.
The former president even said that Pence deserved to be hanged for not collaborating to annul the elections

For the first time, the American public will be exposed to never-before-seen material, testimonies from front-line witnesses and evidence described as “disturbing” about the different subplots of a sophisticated conspiracy in an attempt to prevent the legitimate transfer of power.

court summons

Among those invited to appear at the hearings are two people directly linked to former Vice President Mike Pence: his former senior counsel, Greg Jacob, and former federal judge, J. Michael Luttig. He is also called to testify his former chief of staff Marc Short. All three have already testified privately before the Commission and their words have been used as part of court filings and subpoena requests for other potential testimonies.

A richly detailed investigation that continues to produce startling revelations showing just how close a fatal outcome came and how far former President Trump and his allies were willing to go to cling to power.

Last week the ‘New York Times’ reported that Marc Short the day before the attack warned the head of the Vice President’s Secret Service about the possibility of a security threat. Journalist Maggie Haberman, author of the article in the course of her own research for a book she is preparing on Trump, reveals that Pence’s security knew in advance that the president was going to publicly turn against her.

The vice president was under extreme pressure to prevent the certification of the electoral results in the session of Congress on that January 6. According to some information published in the press about this event, on the day of the attack Trump was even heard saying that maybe Pence deserved to be hanged.

In another surprising twist, former White House adviser Peter Navarro was arrested last week by federal authorities for contempt of commission for refusing to appear on a subpoena and refusing to produce required documents. Navarro, who on at least three occasions in television interviews has implicated himself in the plot of what can be described as an attempted coup, was arrested and handcuffed at the airport about to board a flight. The federal charges include potential document and witness tampering, and attempted flight to avoid justice.

imputed

Navarro and Steve Bannon have already been indicted, though the Justice Department has yet to touch Trump’s chief of staff, Mark Meadows, and adviser Dan Scavino, perhaps an indication of their potential cooperation with the investigation.

The Commission will focus on exposing Trump’s active and direct role in undermining the election results. His thesis will seek to demonstrate the former president’s obsession with losing power, using a false statement campaign that laid the groundwork for the sprawling nationwide conspiracy that sparked violent riots on Capitol Hill.

“There will be significant evidence demonstrating Trump’s coordination, planning and efforts to lead the conspiracy,” said Democratic Congressman David Cicilline, a former Trump second impeachment overseer. “Once the insurrection and violence began, there were continuous efforts to persuade the former president to stop the attack and he always refused to do so,” he added.

In another surprising twist, an email from the Trump campaign’s director of operations in Georgia, Robert Sinners, emerged this week instructing “false voters” to proceed in “complete discretion and secrecy.” This December 13, 2020 e-mail -obtained by the ‘Washington Post’ and CNN- urged the “alternative compromisers” not to “mention anything” about the plot or speak to the media, “imperative to guarantee the end result, a victory in Georgia for President Trump.”

This piece of the puzzle reveals in detail the premeditation of the plot of the fake Republican delegates, self-styled “alternatives”, illegally selected to replace the real ones in the Electoral College during the certification of the results in Congress on January 6.
