Federal health officials Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have issued an alert in relation to several brands of eye drops whose use can cause eye infections that can lead to partial loss of vision or blindness.

Hay 26 products affectedincluding eye drops and gels, from the following brands: CVS Health, Leader (Cardinal Health), Rugby (Cardinal Health), Rite Aid, Target up&up and Velocity Pharma.

The Agency has asked these brands to remove all batches of these products from the establishments since it has detected “unsanitary conditions” that affect the production process of these articles, which must always be sterile. THE FDA has reported that bacterial tests have come back positive in critical drug production areas at several plants.

Although there are still no confirmed cases of injuries caused by the use of these adulterated products, the Agency recommends give back all those who are part of these ‘damaged’ lots.

CVS, Rite Aid and Target are removing products from their stores and websites. For their part, Leader, Rugby and Velocity brand products may still be available in stores and online and should not be purchased, federal regulators have warned.
