Captain Scott Searles, head of the Navy’s unmanned maritime systems program, says that this summer the US Navy is going to test the 80-ton Orca unmanned submarine, equipped with a 34-foot payload module for concealed placement of mines and other cargo.

Boeing is developing five such devices. The Orca was already being tested in April, according to a US Navy spokesman.

It is noted that the main task of the submarines will be the placement of mines.
