The Ecuadorian and American Governments signed a Letter of Intent on April 18 that formalizes the delivery of an additional USD 10 million by the United States for the country to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime.
This agreement was signed by Chancellor Gabriela Sommerfeld and the chargé d’affaires of the United States Embassy, Lawrence Petroni.
“The contribution is made in follow-up to what was stated at the Ecuador-United States Broad Bilateral Dialogue Meeting, on March 13 and 14, 2024 and is awaiting the notification process to the US Congress,” they indicated from the Foreign Ministry.Con These resources, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintains that they will serve to control the production and illicit trafficking of drugs, in addition to continuing the fight against transnational organized crime.
The Government of the United States and that of Ecuador have maintained a good rapprochement in terms of security cooperation. In this context, on February 15, 2024, President Daniel Noboa ratified two maritime and military agreements with that country./ El Telégrafo
