A total of $4.7 billion in emergency funds for fiscal year 2025 is expected to be applied by Joe Biden’s government to the border crisis.

According to an NBC News report, this is the amount allocated for border security, and the idea is to intensify operations by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in the event of a significant increase in immigration.

Likewise, the department would have access to the fund only if the number of undocumented immigrants crossing the southern border exceeds a figure not clarified in the budget.

If it is not used to address the migratory increase, it would be transferred to the funds of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Joe Biden’s proposal, it is clear, will face resistance from Republican representatives, whose legislative opposition had previously denied approving financing of $13.6 billion dollars (USD), requested on an emergency basis to respond to the increase in migrants. .

To address the different areas, it is intended to allocate $405 million dollars for the contract of 1,300 additional Border Patrol agents, as well as funds to maintain the 34,000 existing ICE detention beds.

In addition, $1 billion dollars are allocated for aid to Central America and nearly $1 billion to address the backlog of more than 2.4 million cases pending in United States immigration courts.
