In 2024, Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (AZD) achieved a number of successes in the field of digitalization, which is one of its priorities. Digital innovations are implemented in accordance with the Azerbaijan Railways strategy and serve to increase operational efficiency and transit volumes along international corridors passing through the country.

Azerbaijan Railways, setting itself the goal of turning Azerbaijan into a global transport hub, this year also expanded cooperation on the digitization of railway transport infrastructure with countries located along the international transport corridors North-South, East-West, Day.Az reports with reference to the JSC.

“As part of this, efficient, fast services were offered using an online tariff calculator and the ADY Smart platform, which are based on a “one window” system for cargo owners. Shippers have already been able to track in real time all processes from cargo registration to the commenced shipment via ADY Smart.

Another important achievement is the introduction of a single electronic CIM/SMGS consignment note, which speeds up international transport. This solution allows you to replace several documents with one format, speeds up customs procedures and reduces the risks that may arise when crossing the border. The invoice, as is, is transferred to the existing IT systems of neighboring countries and ensures automated information exchange, working on the “single input” principle. In general, these changes simplify customs processes, support the development of international trade, and strengthen economic ties.

Azerbaijan Railways continued to modernize infrastructure and update information systems in 2024 to optimize transportation management and real-time cargo monitoring. Digital solutions simplify logistics processes and strengthen ties with international customers, making Azerbaijan a more attractive transport hub in the region. Similar digitization processes are taking place in the East-West and North-South corridors. Integration into the international logistics platform created by Global DTC to provide freight data exchange and Track&Trace digital services is among the initiatives supported by AZD.

In addition, AZD conducted an analysis of production processes and created a conceptual framework that defines the requirements for the company’s three main automation systems for the company’s operational activities – “Freight Transportation Management”, “Cargo Commercial Operations Management” and “Locomotive Crew Management”. These systems carry out such important processes as transportation planning, personnel management and the formation of highly qualified personnel for the development of the management system.

AZD launched its updated corporate website in November 2024 to provide its customers with more convenient and efficient services. The site provides more convenient access for both passengers and business partners to the services of Azerbaijan Railways. Users can comfortably perform various operations by familiarizing themselves with the services, projects and latest updates of AZD on the website with a user-friendly interface,” the company said in a statement.
