China, Russia, Britain, the United States and France, the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, have issued a joint statement on the prevention of nuclear war and the elimination of nuclear war. The report insists that nuclear weapons should only be used for defense.
While there are fears that countries, including China, are proliferating nuclear weapons, the five countries’ joint report on nuclear weapons is considered the most important. As stated in the Five Nations Joint Statement; China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States consider avoiding war between nuclear-weapon states and minimizing strategic risks as their primary responsibilities.
We are determined never to wage a nuclear war. Since the use of nuclear weapons will have long-term consequences, we guarantee that as long as nuclear weapons exist, they will be used for defensive purposes and to prevent war. We are committed to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). We each intend to continue our efforts to prevent the unauthorized or unplanned use of nuclear weapons and to further strengthen it. This is stated in the joint statement of the five countries.
