BOLZANO. “Influenza is still a big public health problem. It is an important disease that can have serious complications and from which you can even die.” This was stated by the health councilor of the Province of Bolzano, Hubert Messnerannouncing the start of the flu vaccination campaign by mid-October.
Unlike what was established by the Ministry of Health, vaccination in South Tyrol it will be free for everyone and not just for the over 60s – “We hope to increase vaccination coverage – added Messner – because the vaccine is the most effective method for preventing influenza, which means reducing hospital and social costs”.
“Last year – the councilor continued – we managed with vaccination to reduce the costs affecting cardio-respiratory problems by 17% and this is a significant expense for public health”.
The vaccine will be administered at the vaccination centers of the South Tyrol Health Authority and at participating family doctors and pharmacies. The expected expenditure is 1.2 million euros, 250,000 euros less than last year.
