Lists are being prepared for the appointment of Vice-Chancellors in universities. Attempts are being made to appoint the teachers who are ahead in the three qualifications who are acceptable to all as vice-chancellors.
Education Advisor Wahiduddin Mahmud spoke at a press conference in his office at the Secretariat on Wednesday (August 21) about the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor.
Most of the public universities in the country have vacancies in important posts including vice-chancellors. This is disrupting the class-examination. The administrative activities of the university have come to a standstill. 42 public universities of the country including VC and other important posts are vacant. Class exams are also being disrupted in this situation. Similar situation prevails in other private colleges and secondary schools.
Wahiduddin Mahmud said the advantage that was there earlier, especially when the party in power, had a teachers’ union. One person was drawn from there and made vice chancellor. In our case, we are not getting that opportunity. Now the information is collected from the teachers we know in different universities.
While informing about the qualifications of the Vice-Chancellors, the Education Advisor said, I am making a list of such teachers who are acceptable to all in terms of academic qualifications, personality and administrative skills. We will appoint vice-chancellors in the universities as soon as possible.
Regarding the appointment of the VC, the adviser said, the advantage that was there earlier, especially when the party in power, had a teachers’ association. From there, one person was made VC. In our case, we are not getting that opportunity. Now the data is collected from the teachers we know in different universities. We are making a list of such teachers who are acceptable to all in terms of educational qualification, personality and administrative skills. We will appoint VCs in universities as soon as possible.
Many teachers are being forced to resign from secondary schools as well. Many are moving away on their own because of their political identity.
In this context, the advisor said, the country’s private colleges and other educational institutions were politicized. The irregularity in the appointment of teachers was a cumulative irregularity. Many have been fired for very unreasonable reasons. Thousands of such complaints have come to me. These cannot be fixed without a policy decision. But the point is that politeness should be maintained in the classroom, no force can be used, no personal insults can be done.
The adviser commented that the initiative to release the results in a special manner by canceling the remaining part of the ongoing HSC examination through the continuous pressure of several hundred students the previous day was unintended.
He said, I have nothing to decide about the HSC exam alone. don’t know Boards will decide.
The exam was cancelled. How do you see the matter? In response to such a question, he said that an unexpected incident happened yesterday. I haven’t even thought about it yet. It still hasn’t sunk into my head. I will not do a single thing about it. Boards will discuss with experts and decide. Half of the HSC exams are over now, after all they will decide what to do. Any announcement about this exam should be made by the chairman of Dhaka Education Board. The announcement he made is the announcement.
He said, “We will identify all kinds of injustices in the education sector across the country.” Now I have started from the top level of administration. I would say can’t be messed with. Not everything can be changed overnight.
