The sixth edition of the FISU América 3×3 was held in the city of Cipolletti, Río Negro, Argentina. Led by the Argentine University Sports Federation (FeDUA), FISU America, the CIF Club, the Municipality of Cipolletti and the Argentine Basketball Confederation, the qualifying event for the FISU 3×3 University World Cup 2024 had competitions from 10 to 12 May with the presence of more than 120 representatives from 16 universities across the continent.

During the opening ceremony, which took place at the Cipolletti Municipal Sports Center, they offered welcome words from the President of FISU America, Alim Maluf Neto; of the President of FeDUA, Emiliano Ojea; and the Sports Director of Cipolletti, Leandro Dómini.

Also present were the Vice President of FISU America, Fred Asprilla; the Treasurer of FISU America and Director of the Organizing Committee of the event, Inés Gómez; the member of the Executive Committee of FISU America, Alex Funes; the President of COSUD and Vice President of FeDUA, Adrián Verdini; and the President of the Argentine Basketball Confederation, Sergio Gatti; among other authorities.

The competition had action from early on. The sporting event had its first matches on Friday, May 10, with the participation of 16 institutions between the men’s and women’s branches, and had its definition and subsequent medal ceremony on Sunday, May 12. All matches were broadcast through the Basquetpass.com page; from the FISU America YouTube channel; and for the whole world, through the FISU.TV platform.

This event, which brings together young student athletes from eight countries in America, between 18 and 25 years old, was declared of interest by the Municipality of Cipolletti and by the National Representative Gisela Marziotta, in the Honorable Chamber of Deputies of the Nation.

This is the second time that Argentina organizes an event of this magnitude, since in 2017 the National University of La Matanza hosted the first edition of the FISU America 3×3, and this marks the active participation of the Argentine University Sports Federation, not only nationally, but also internationally.

In his speech, the president of FeDUA Emiliano Ojea stressed to the student athletes and those present that “Double Career is here to stay; This Program seeks to accompany athletes of university or pre-university age so that they can carry out their academic careers, at the same time as their sports ones; It is the greatest legacy that can be left in society. These young people will be a different generation from ours and we are convinced that a better future will occur with people trained in the values ​​of sport and education.”
