The vice mayor of Toledo, Inés Cañizares (Vox), has pointed out that the comment she made recently in which she stated that she will never join “any radical platform of crazy people who start shouting and insulting people,” made reference to “a hypothetical situation” and was not directed at Platform 8M Toledo.

“I did not qualify anyone specifically, I did not insult anyone and I did not refer to anyone specifically, I was simply talking about a hypothetical situation,” he stated when asked by the media about some controversial statements that were reproached by the municipal groups of PSOE and IU- Podemos.

In this sense, he asserts that “if anyone has felt addressed” it is that “there are people who have very thin skin who insult others.” “It was not my intention, much less to insult anyone specifically, but simply to refer to a hypothetical situation in which I will never participate,” she insisted. “Just as, for example, I would never vote in favor of an amnesty law, I would not stand behind a banner where there were people who insulted others,” said the representative of the far-right group.

Cañizares’ statements came after last week two PP councilors in the Government team reported having been rebuked. in a concentration condemning sexist violence convened precisely by the 8M Platform. The feminist group explained that the criticism arose after asking both councilors not to stand in front of the banner, which they say “they ignored.”

Subsequently, the spokespersons for the municipal groups of PSOE and IU- Podemos, Noelia de la Cruz and Txema Fernández, attacked the vice mayor for these statements. De la Cruz censored “that way of addressing the platform” and Fernández considered that her words represent a “fascistic attitude that stigmatizes the feminist movement of Toledo and the women who are being murdered.”

Although the 8M Platform has not spoken directly after Cañizares’ words, other feminist groups in the region have expressed their support for Toledo’s activities on social networks.
