The vice president of Argentina, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, was convicted of corruption. In addition to this, Kirchner was sentenced to 6 years in prison for another case of irregularities in connection with road construction.

The court determined that Kirchner took part in a conspiracy to embezzle a billion dollars during her term as president. In addition to the punishment she has already received, the court ruled that she will not be able to hold any public office.

The prosecution claimed that Kirchner falsified 51 public projects for the benefit of Lazarzo Baz, a real estate tycoon. Baz had close ties with the husband of the deputy carrier, Nestor Kirchner, former president of the country in 2003-2007.

It was also claimed that the goal was to transfer government funds through tenders that were inflated and many times were not built at all.

Fernandez is immersed in other legal problems, where she is also accused of money laundering, in which her son and daughter are also involved.

Kirchner denied the charges against her and claimed she was a “victim of the legal mafia”. She plans to appeal the ruling, a process that could take years. Until the process is over, she will have immunity from arrest.
