At the beginning of April this year (April 9 – ed. past) in Vilnius, on VAGraičiūna St., in one of the car repair shops operating there, police officers arrested persons suspected of illegal possession of a very large amount of narcotic or psychotropic substances and their distribution. During the investigation, a man suspected of having purchased a psychotropic substance, amphetamine, was arrested, and soon after, a man who distributed drugs and his accomplice, who possibly helped distribute narcotic substances, were also arrested.
During the pre-trial investigation, three suspects were detained. The possible organizer of the criminal act under investigation has previously been convicted in a foreign country for crimes related to weapons, ammunition, narcotic or psychotropic substances.
After arresting the suspects and starting to search the service premises, it had to be stopped, because several men who approached the garages started behaving aggressively – after raising the garage gates, they immediately started shooting at the police officers inside with unidentified weapons without any warning. The police officer then used his service weapon, firing shots.
The suspects who were near the garage ran away, but one of them was arrested. The other fugitives ran away, but were apprehended as police searched for the fleeing suspects.
Lrytas.lt already announced about this shooting and the arrest of the suspects. If you want to read about it, click here.
Due to this fact, a pre-trial investigation is being conducted for resisting the officers.
During the search of the detainee for the illegal distribution of narcotics, about 1 kg of suspected psychotropic substance – amphetamine, scales, tools for distributing and packaging drugs, air rifles, ammunition and other items relevant to the pre-trial investigation were found and seized.
The two detained suspects were given the strictest pre-trial detention – arrest, while the man who bought the psychotropic substance was given a milder pre-trial detention.
During the investigation, it was established that the car service was possibly used as a place to distribute psychotropic substances.
As new psychotropic substances appear on the market, e.g. “crystal”, which has a similar effect to amphetamine, the demand for amphetamine has recently decreased and it is used by people who have long been used to it and do not want or are afraid to start using its analogues because of the unpredictable sensation or consequences after taking them.
The criminal law provides for a prison sentence of 10 to 15 years for illegal possession of a very large amount of psychotropic substances.
