The visit of the African Union to Burkina “augurs good prospects”, minister
Ouagadougou, July 23, 2023(AIB)- The head of Burkinabe diplomacy, Olivia Rouamba, welcomed on Sunday the visit of a delegation from the African Union, seeing in it good prospects.
“Burkina Faso has been suspended from all bodies of the African Union since the change of the constitutional order (in January 2022, editor’s note). There were several negotiations to integrate Burkina, but the fundamental texts of the Union made it difficult to go to the negotiating table. And seeing such a delegation bodes well for the future,” Foreign Minister Olivia Rouamba said on Sunday.
She was speaking on Sunday, on the sidelines of a meeting in Ouagadougou with a mission
of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union (AU), led by Ambassador Mohamed Lamine Thiaw.
For Ms. Rouamba, the outcome of this visit will allow the situation to be assessed differently.
To the delegation, the Minister indicated that in this context of crisis, the Burkinabè government has put in place the Action Plan for Stabilization and Development, the various pillars of which are, among others, the fight against terrorism, the humanitarian response, the rebuilding of the State, the improvement of governance, national reconciliation.
According to the Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs, at the end of the working meeting with the members of the government, the African Union delegation will also have audiences with the Prime Minister, the Head of State and the President of the Transitional Legislative Assembly.
