The Voice of the Voiceless for Human Rights (VSV) remains deeply concerned by the advanced deterioration in the state of health of political opponent Salomon Idi Kalonda Della and appeals to the Congolese authorities in general and to President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo in his capacity as supreme magistrate in particular and for humanitarian reasons, the postponement of the trial hearings until the total and effective recovery of the person concerned.

The VSV noted with satisfaction that the Congolese authorities had accepted that the sick defendant receive medical care in a private clinic, which is consistent with respect for the right of each person to medical care regardless of what they are accused of.

However, in recent days it has been reported that the state of health of Mr. Salomon Idi Kalonda Della has deteriorated considerably and has been on a respirator and under medical assistance for several days.

The defendant accused of treason and alleged intelligence with Rwandan officers as well as complicity with the M23 rebellion was unable to attend the hearing on Thursday, November 2, 2023 because he was very weakened by illness for several weeks in the clinic. highly secure private home where he receives treatment. His doctor would have opposed any extraction of force from the opponent at the risk of further deteriorating his state of health.

For the VSV, it is time for the Congolese authorities to listen to the cries of distress in favor of Mr. Salomon Idi Kalonda Della in order to avoid the worst in the hands of the Congolese State as under other Congolese regimes. The Congolese State has nothing to lose by granting the request to postpone the hearings for a period of three months or more in order to allow the person concerned to recover before the continuation of the hearings.

There is no need to recall that Mr. Salomon IDI KALONDA DELLA is above all a human being who has rights that the Congolese State must respect and enforce and that no pretext can justify holding a mobile hearing with a detainee on a respirator or on medical assistance because this is humanly unacceptable in a rule of law.

As a reminder, the political opponent, special advisor to the political opponent Moïse Katumbi, candidate for the presidential election scheduled for December 2023, was kidnapped on May 30, 2023, by elements of the security services at the international airport of Kinshasa/N’djili and transported for detention to the Directorate of Military Intelligence (DRM, ex-DEMIAP) in Kinshasa/Kintambo before his transfer to the Ndolo military prison.

Ultimately, the VSV launches a humanitarian SOS to the Congolese authorities in general and to the President of the Republic in particular in his capacity as supreme magistrate to save the life of a human being whose state of health is only deteriorating. by adjourning the hearings until the accused has fully recovered.
