The Americans will wait for another title in their home tournament from the “Grand Slam”.

Taylor Fritz got a chance to succeed 2003 champion Andy Roddick, but that’s it. The Californian, who reached the Grand Slam final for the first time in his career, was simply not in Yannick Siner’s category.

The world number one became the first Italian to win the US Open after not even giving his opponent a set. A 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 win and the two-time Sofia Open champion ended his Grand Slam season the way he started it. At the beginning of the year, Siner became the US outdoor champion.

The South Tyrolean arrived in New York after the huge scandal with his two positive tests for an anabolic steroid, despite which he escaped without punishment. Siner has not lost a final since last season’s ATP Finals in Turin.
