Faced with soaring gas and oil prices following the war in Ukraine, the public authorities are mobilizing to reassure their fellow citizens. In Malaysia, the government very quickly tried to calm the population by ensuring that prices would remain low thanks to subsidies. Belgium is playing the aid card for fuel consumers. In Brazil, the rise in the barrel of oil caused pump prices to explode: + 18% for petrol, + 25% for diesel last week. In Nigeria, one might think that the rise in the price of a barrel of oil is good news for the first crude oil producer on the African continent and the sixth in the world, except that the country’s four refineries are shut down for lack of maintenance or because they are too old, forcing the country to import almost all of its fuel, in a tight market, thus posing serious supply problems.
